Apple has reportedly already tagged LCD suppliers for an iPad mini, with an eye toward launching the tablet in the second half of the year. Rumors of an iPad mini have been floating around for a while. Apple, as usual, has been mum on the possibility of such a device. But IHS pointed to "supply-side sources" who claim that a 7.8-inch iPad will launch later this year, adding to Apple's lineup. iPad Mini Specs:
iPad Mini to have a 7.85-inch screen
The ballsy lads at tabtimes have been speaking to analyst Andy Hargreaves again (see above) and what they managed to get out of him was a few iPad Mini specs. The most impressive was that the screen size would be 7.85-inch. This places the iPad Mini in direct competition with the Google Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire.
iPad Mini will use thin-film technology
By Ashleigh Allsopp, Macworld UK. The rumoured 7.85in iPad will have thin-film touch technology, and will launch by the fourth quarter of 2012, according to reports. In a report, Digitimes quotes industry sources who believe the smaller iPad, dubbed iPad 'Mini' will feature G/F2 thin-film touch technology. Nitto is thought to be supplying the thin-film materials, with Nissha Printing and TPK manufacturing the touch screens.
The thin-film technology will enable the iPad Mini to be thinner because it has one less layer than the current structure, said the sources. They also claim that the technology will help reduce costs.
iPad Mini will have a 1024x768 display
One final claim that Andrew Hargreaves made was that the iPad Mini will go on sale for $299 (£188) and part of the reason for the cheap price is that the screen will not be retina quality, instead opting for a 1024x768.
Why All the iPad Mini Rumors?
It may seem curious that rumors of the iPad Mini arrived in major publications the week after Google announced the $199 Google Nexus 7-inch tablet, but as Larry Dignan of ZDNet explains it’s likely a planned leak.
Dignan explains that by leaking information about the iPad Mini, real or not, Apple is able to “freeze” buyers who might otherwise snap up the affordable Google tablet.
Will these new iPad Mini rumors freeze your buying decision?
Still, the iPad has watched its lead decline amidst a swarm of Android tablets, large and small, released over the past year. An iPad mini could be the ticket to combat the Kindle Fire and other smaller tablets. But Apple typically sets the trends rather following those already set by others. So if we do see an iPad mini this year, I'd expect Apple to add some kind of twist to distinguish it from its Android rivals.
As we all know, the new iPad 3 or iPad mini can't play all videos and Blu-ray/DVD movies. Brorsoft Blu-ray Video Converter Ultimate is powered as the best Blu-ray Ripeper, DVD Ripper and Video Converter at the same time conveniently. Which enables you to convert almost all the video files and rip BD/DVD folders or discs for your iPad2/3/mini in 1080p/720p easily.
